CHOOSING  YOUR  BULLDOG  VETERINARIAN

It is EXTREMELY important to note that not all veterinarians have much experience with english bulldogs.  You may have a vet you love, but it is necessary to be sure that you are finding a BULLDOG veterinarian.  Ask your vet how many bulldogs they have seen in their practice.  I have had answers from 0 to 30.  Please choose the vet that answers 30.  Or the one that regularly sees english bulldogs.

English bulldogs have a slower metabolism then the average dog.  I have had one too many calls of someone losing their dog when the vet put it too sleep just to when they were having it spayed or neutered!  And ONE call is too many believe me.  The anesthesia must be adjusted to their metabolism or gas used instead.  PLEASE do not allow a surgery on your bulldog with a vet inexperienced with bulldogs.

English bulldogs have alot of wrinkles.  It is the one trait that we absolutely love in our bulldogs and the one trait that can cause us daily stress and trouble.  The wrinkles fold around the eyes, can pull on the eyes, can cause yeast in the creases of the folds, can cause snoring and staining.  A vet with no experience is going to have you doing eye surgeries and nose surgeries before you know it!  I have had folks call me about their vet wanting to cut the tail off, cut out wrinkles, reshape the nose, I mean REALLY come on!

Please if your vet is requesting a surgery GET A SECOND OPINION, or call me first.  I had a customer with a little puppy ailment.  I had the meds to fix it, a five day treatment.  They decided to go to the vet instead.  The vet administered the same meds I had AND IV's, xrays, blood tests... to the tune of $500. I also saved a puppy, the vet sent home to die in 8 hours.  We are not vet's here, but we have raised and loved this breed for many years and are available to advise you before you set off to a vet who doesn't understand bulldogs.  So please feel free to call us at 520-971-8310.

A good way to find a bulldog vet is to find a reproductive specialist.  They will always have bulldogs as their number one breed due to the need for Artificial Insemination and Csections in this breed.

I am going to begin a list of vets on this page for around the country.  Please email prk@wildblue.net if you have a good bulldog vet in your area that I should add to this list:
